Jane Eyre

In the summer of 2015, I had the incredible privilege to be cast in Out Loud Theatre's production of Shared Experience's Jane Eyre. I played the title role under the direction of the Kira Hawkridge.  Her design made use of the theatre's 4th floor performance space to create the world inside Jane's head. The incomparable Sarah Leach played Bertha, who, in this production, is also Jane. As a child Jane locks Bertha in the Red Room and throughout the rest of her life must deal with this locked away wildness inside. The entire cast was an incredible ensemble, full of big hearts and big talent.

At the play's core is Jane Eyre herself, played by Katherine Skoretz. As a beloved character of classic literature, there is a long list of actresses who have played the role. Skoretz, in this reviewer's opinion, is among the best at capturing the essence of Jane and bringing that essence to life. She nails the most important aspects of the performance, bringing to truthful, vivid life all of Jane's headstrong, bold, tough, intelligent nature and her ability to survive just about anything.

As if orchestrating a New England premiere wasn’t exciting enough, Out Loud is collaborating with artists outside New England for this exciting venture. Katherine Skoretz, a PhD candidate in theater at Wayne State Univerity in Detroit, Mich, made the trek to little Rhody to play Jane. “I’ve been following Out Loud for a couple of years now and have been excited by the daring choices they make in terms of staging and storytelling.”
